This term, Year 5s have been learning about programming. They learnt how computers execute a function through a set of codes. The introductory lesson began with coding activities on Scratch, where students developed their knowledge of block coding using parameters such as events and motion to animate a sprite on Scratch. Then as they became more confident in the coding language, we introduced mini robots, The Codey Rocky. 

With the Codey Rocky, students learn how to code the mini bot to move and repeat certain functions using the iteration variable in their block coding . Students had lots of fun making their bots move around the class, detect various obstacles and even make certain sounds when the voice command “Hello” is initiated.
